Downgrade macOS on Intel Machines

To revert your Mac to an older macOS version that is older than the current version, follow the steps below.

  1. On the target Mac, hold the Option key and press the power button once to power up the Intel Mac. Continue holding Option until the startup screen appears.
  2. Boot into Internet Recovery by holding down Command + Shift + Option + R. This will boot into the oldest macOS recovery for that machine.
  3. Once in Recovery, open Terminal and run the workflow with your required macOS installer.

Note: Use a Thunderbolt 2 to Ethernet adapter on laptops and built-in Ethernet to boot Internet Recovery in 3 to 5 minutes. Booting to Internet Recovery over Wi-Fi takes 20-35 minutes.
