Restoring iPhones and iPads with DFU Blaster Pro

You are here:

To restore iOS and iPadOS systems, follow the video and steps below.

To restore multiple iOS and iPadOS devices at one time, use the Acroname Hub to connect up to 5 systems at once. The Acroname Hub and DFU Blaster Pro can be used to put all USB-C devices into DFU mode and start the restore. Devices with a Lightning connection will require manually putting them into Recovery Mode before restoring.

  1. Verify that cable 0 is plugged into the Acroname Hub port 0 and the front port on the Admin machine.
  2. Plug cable 1 from port 1 on the Acroname Hub into the iOS/iPadOS device at station 1.
  3. Repeat for cables 2-5.
  4. Open DFU Blaster Pro by selecting it from the Dock.
  5. Open Settings (gear icon in the upper right corner).
  1. Select the option to Send DFU Command for iOS with Acroname.
  2. Check that Use Custom IPSW is NOT selected.
  3. Click OK.
  1. Select the Acroname Hub button in the upper part of the main DFU Blaster Pro window.
  1. If prompted to Allow access to devices on the network, select “Allow”.
  1. Select the Put All in DFU button.
Note: Only the USB-C devices will be put into DFU Mode. The Lightning devices will need to be put into Recovery Mode manually in the following steps.
  1. If multiple Mac windows open and cover DFU Blaster, click the DFU Blaster icon in the dock to bring it back to the front.
  1. Close the Acroname Hub window.
  1. All USB-C target devices should show a green checkmark in the DFU Mode column. The Lightning devices will not have a green check.
  1. To put the Lightning devices into DFU mode, the method will depend on the iOS type. You can use the iOS Model Identifier to look up the instructions on how to put Lightning devices into Recovery Mode.

First, note the device Model Identifier for devices not in DFU Mode under the Type column.
  1. Open Look up DFU Port.
  1. Enter the Model Identifier from the Type column or Model Number and select your device.
  2. Use the instructions under the DFU Port Location section to put the device into Recovery Mode.
  3. Repeat for all Lightning devices.

Once the device is in Recovery Mode, you will see the Recovery Mode screen.

  1. Close DFU Port and Device Lookup guide window.
  1. Once USB-C devices are in DFU Mode and Lightning devices are in Recovery Mode, they will appear under Available Devices.
  1. Select Restore All.

Once restore has been completed on all devices, the iPhones and iPads will show the Hello screen from the setup assistant, and DFU Blaster Pro will chime a success chime.

The process is completed after about 20-25 minutes for five devices or 4-6 minutes per device. The restore time can be viewed in the lower left corner of the main DFU Blaster Pro window. Once completed, the History section will show that all five devices have been restored successfully.

When complete, repeat for new devices.

Troubleshooting

  1. If the yellow LED on the Acroname port does not turn on during restore for a specific Mac, unplug and plug the cable on that port. The yellow light should come back on, and the machine should start restoring.
  2. If the ports do not show up in the Acroname Hub window, try closing and reopening the Acroname Hub window. If that does not work, quit and restart the DFU Blaster Pro application.
  3. If the hub is not responding, check the lights on the left side of the hub. If only a single LED is on, restart the Mac and power cycle the hub.
  4. For other issues, restart the device and power cycle the hub.
  5. If a device fails to restore, repeat a second time during the next round.
  6. If multiple devices fail repeatedly, reboot the admin Mac mini and power cycle the hub.
