Setting Up Erase and Restore Automaton

You are here:
  1. Click the Finder icon on the left side of the Dock.

2. From the Go menu, select Applications.

3. Open Automaton by double clicking the app icon.

4. Assign buttons 1-3 in the lower left corner to the following workflows:

  • Button 1: _Boot to Recovery
  • Button 2: _”Erase Mac…” from Recovery
  • Button 3: _Intel-Run MDS Workflow from Recovery

When setting up button 2 & 3 on the Automaton, make sure that the light matches the corresponding button.

5. Select the “_Intel-Run MDS Workflow from Recovery” and under the “Type Text” step, update the url from http://deploy.local:8088 to match the computer name. For example, if the computer name is deploy1.local, the url will start with http://deploy1.local:8088.

6. Insert the Automaton into the back of the Mac mini.

7. Click Quit when prompted for Keyboard Setup Assistant.

8. Select Update Automaton in the upper right corner. Then click Update.

9. If prompted to update the firmware, click Update Firmware, then select Flash. Click OK when the Automaton has been flashed. After the Automaton has been flashed repeat step 8 (update the Automaton again).

10. Remove the Automaton and repeat for any additional Automatons by repeating steps 6-9.

11. Quit Automaton app by selecting Quit from the Automaton application menu.
